Government Shutdown Coming Soon

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." - Mark Twain

Although I've been lax updating my website, and I've been especially tardy with updating personal thoughts and anything having to do with journal-like prose in this blog, guilt rarely is possessed by those who have no time to feel it, so I currently feel slightly embarrassed, but I don't have much time to finish this post, so I'll leave this type of emo-sentiment in this wordy run-on sentence.

Recently I was eating lunch: chunky soup from a plastic container (after removing the aluminum lid of course…the remaining metal is microwaveable). I mixed this course with sea salt and black pepper potato chips and some cheese. Before long, I noticed my arms and legs were merging and my sweat seemed to solidify. I stood up, and then could not move. I kept thinking about Lot and his wife.

Since I assumed I was quickly turning into a salt pillar, I decided I should waddle over to Old Town and hang myself by the feet: a salt lick for the Easter bunny, who lives in just off Turner Street. That seems safer than waiting around outside for the fire and brimstone that assumedly is coming for Lansing. I ended up not making it to Easter's house, besides I heard he left town with Lot and everybody else. It started to rain near the Red Cross building on Saginaw, so that kind of didn't help my solid intentions. I guess this is my punishment for hanging around when everybody seems to be fleeing the state.

Fire and brimstone is due Monday, supposedly…unless the legislature can actually get something done today and tomorrow. Government shutdown?

What have I been up to? Here's a list.

I teach music at Harper Creek Community Schools.

I plan for classes.

I do Laundry.

I clean Woody's fish bowl. It smells.

I play guitar.

I remix old demos.

I watch X-Files when Amanda isn't around. She doesn't like the show.

I'm uncharacteristically multi-tasking myself through three books currently: Mere Anarchy by Woody Allen, Rattlebone by Maxine Clair, and Lake Wobegon Summer 1956 by Garrison Keillor.

I drive a lot.

I've seen four accidents so far driving back and forth to Battle Creek.

I listen to a lot of music in the car. Most recently The Slider by T. Rex, Toy Matinee's self-titled, Big by Macy Gray, Street Lethal and Second Heat by Racer X, Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood by Neko Case, and Kala by MIA, The Times They Are A-Changin' by Bob Dylan. Also some mix-CDs.

I listen to Michigan Public Radio.

I purchased LP versions of three records yesterday at Replay Entertainment Exchange; New Morning by Bob Dylan, God Save the Queen by Robert Fripp and Risque by Chic.

Amanda and I have continued our constant video rental with five titles; Tom Thumb, In Like Flint, and the original three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies.

I hadn't seen the first Turtles in a while, and it's been even longer since I saw two. The third, I think I've seen once. We have yet to watch the second two turtles as of today. Tom Thumb was cool visually, In Like Flint had some funny moments but definitely is nothing compared to the first one.

Amanda and I took a trip to the Renaissance Festival in Holly and also visited Krupp's Novelty shop. Always a great time.

Amanda and I went to Kresge Art Museum to check out the design options for the new art museum/building at MSU. Some quite incredible, others incredible for the wrong reason. Incredibly awful.

On a weekend Amanda and I went to Marshall and Kalamazoo and did some antiquing and resale-shopping.

Our cat, Boo, is definitely getting bigger and more daring.

I whacked my head pretty good.

Been looking into New York a lot. We're think it sounds good for spring break.
