Check out all the info for it on our Performance Page. This will be Brian Slagle's last show performing as a Beast of Burden! So come on out to wish him farewell!
In late 2002, I played a show with a short-lived rock band called Mr. Fusion. It mostly focused on material from the yet-to-be released LP Bad Luck, but it also featured some new material. Most of the newer material I played in this acoustic set that opened the evening. We performed at the infamous coffeshop/fried food/pool/hangout place, The Quadstop. This is one of the clearest archived recordings I've got. Recorded by Vince Perri. Enjoy it by checking it out here.I suppose the next logical Archive release will be the electric Mr. Fusion set, but I may delay it a bit to make sure everything's fine in Kalamazoo.
This is the listenable megamix for all the tracks I posted yesterday. This is fun because you can actually listen to the mix I made. Enjoy. The page is here.
Just over 2 and a half 80 minute mixes, this 50 song mix collects the songs I listened to most this last year, although some had to be left out. I am an album-oriented listener, so these songs were my go-to songs. ENJOY.
This is today's post. My "Top 50 Records of 2007." Check it out!
They are coming!!!!
Some of you who check this site (daily!) are probably wondering what's going on. Well, I've got some big updates in the works within the next two weeks including six (that's right, six) 80 minute mixes that kind of make up for my lost time, a few archive posts including Pendulum's full-length lo-fi-alterna-folk-pop-metal opus THRAH, some Bidule stuff, maybe some old live recordings.
In the video section, I've got a few more crazies to show you including the lighting of the State of Michigan Tree, some footage from an apple orchard this summer, some travel videos, and some cat footage.
Also some changes are on the horizon again that I'll have to give you an update at some point.
Lastly, it's about that time for my top 50 albums of 2007 list. Of course it's important you know that this list is the top 50 albums I came across for the first time either through friends or purchased myself...new releases or old.
Stay tuned.
Keyboardist/harmonica/mandolin player, sometimes-percussionist and all around cool guy Eric Bredin has officially exited from The Beasts of Burden to devote more time to his family and other responsibilities. We all wish Eric the best and appreciate all the great contributions he gave on the first record! He will be missed. Stay tuned for more news in the lineup department.
The show at Replay Entertainment Exchange has been cancelled, although I'm in the process of trying to get the night booked somewhere else. Amanda was getting a wedding dress altered when she noticed a for rent sign, to which I went to the REE myspace page and discovered the news. Glad she noticed, or we probably would've shown up there with our gear...and been quite annoyed. Stay tuned for a hopeful readjustment.
Another 80 minute mix is up. Check it here.
The Weekly 80 Minute Mix is up. Check it. N and 0. So, Today I was at MSU's International New Directions in Music Education conference...I'll be there tommmmorrow too. I'll have some thoughts in my blog next week.
I record a lot of source material for use in my electro-acoustic works with Bidule and this recording is about an hours-worth of a storm fading away from our apartment. Check out the recording in the media section.
Also, the 80 Minute Mix is up. Check it.
Beyond adding Mix 11, I've also scheduled a solo show at Magdalena's Tea House on November 16. Check out Live Performance section for more details.
At Replay Entertainment Exchange, The Beasts of Burden and myself will be returning to my hometown for a show of new material. The date is November 9. Check out Live Performance section for more details.
Bam! Three Mixes. More soon. 80-minute mix. Also, check out the Beasts of Burden videos that Brendan May added!!
It's out early, which is fine since I've been a little lazy to update the site anyway. Check out this weeks archive release...The 6-Track EP by Pendulum. More soon.
Also, have you checked out all the other archive releases and other sounds? Check them out here along with the rest of the media!
Are you keeping up on my blog? You should be. I've started adding stuff to it again. A few things...
1. The 80-Minute Mix will return this Friday with three(3) separate mixes.
2. From-the-archives release will more than likely occur late Thursday this week.
3. More videos coming soon (some are already up on Brendan May's youtube site anyway)
4. Another live-show coming soon!
...stay tuned!
For tomorrow's "Archive" audio release, I went with my remix of Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey" called "Cover Me." It's an moderately long electro-acoustic piece using BIDULE. Check out the Cover Me through imeem on this page.
It's official. I'm working in Harper Creek Community Schools as a music teacher. I will be teaching general music to 5th and 6th graders and choir to 7th and 8th graders. More details with that soon.
80-Minute Mix 06 is up. Check it out here.
Also...September 8 is coming around the corner soon, so be ready when she's coming roun the mountain. Kraftbrau Brewery marks the site of our latest gig. Performance info here.
All sorts of videos from the recent trip to the Upper Peninsula. Check out the media section for both along with other stuff if you've missed it. Or just go straight to the new sections...upper peninsula videos and the video postcard section.
What audio will be up this week? I am so zealous that I put it up a day early (of course that could also be due to the fact that lately everything has been late)! July Songs, a cheesy instrumental record of "Rompler synths" and drum machines is the archive release for this time. Since I have no intention of rereleasing it, enjoy it here.
Check out the Media section if you've forgotten any of the other archive releases...
Hang on because more videos will be up soon. I've got something like 40 minutes of video footage from the recent trip to the UP Amanda and I made last week. Stay tuned.
Check out the 80-minute mix page for the John Adams mix.
What audio will be up this week? Tis time for another one, aint it? Just wait and see. And maybe some more news coming soon for a solo acoustic show. Just hang on...for a few days...
I forgot to throw up my 80-minute Mix for July 27 because that morning Amanda and I left for the Upper Peninsula. We're back now so I'm putting up. It was one of twelve mix-CDs I made for the trip. Check out the 80-minute mix page for the info. Friday will be the next 80-Minute mix, too. Back on schedule, y'all.
Also, I'll be throwing up a bunch more videos and pictures from the trip soon. Of course, that means I have to finish the template for the picture section of the website, so know that the videos will come quicker then the pictures.
The next "every-other" Thursday has rolled along and today is the day. So, this time our "every-other" Thursday audio segment is a complete unedited live show from The Belmont in Hamtramck, MI. The date for the performance is April 20, 2006. Enjoy!
Beyond this week's 80-minute mix, the blog has also been back in action all week, and I've been continuing to scrape the archive for videos, pics and audio. As you can tell, the photo section still hasn't been updated, but it is coming soon! Yesterday I met with the Beasts to discuss the future and we're all excited about it.
I've also decided to make it a habit of putting up unreleased audio every other Thursday. Last Thursday I uploaded a solo piano/vocals concert from Kalamazoo College, and next Thursday will be a Beasts of Burden concert at the Belmont in Hamtramck. The concert is an interesting one because it is the BOB in power-trio form; myself, Ryan Malinich on drums and Brian Richard on bass.
Other things on the agenda for future release within this "audio thursday" habit include a complete unedited Mike and Dave performance, some loose extended jams by Matt Mepham and myself, a concert at the now defunct Aroma Cafe in East Lansing featuring members of Beasts of Burden 1.0, some sound designs I did with Bidule, the audio from a live concert I did when I was in high school, the remastered recordings of the Alice in Wonderland Score, the alternate tracks that could have made it onto January Songs, possibly a remastered recording of Thrah, and more!
Plus, the shop is up and running for buying records!
So, even though it is Saturday, and I tend not to update the site on weekends, I decided I couldn't wait any longer to throw up more video content. Of course, to be honest, I had finished uploading the content yesterday and just didn't get around to throwing up the actual html pages on this site. As usual it's through a third-party site, in this case the wonderful YOUTUBE. Anyway, check out the Media section of the website and scroll down to videos to see what I've added. And I'll tell you here, sorry...Music House Museum videos, old solo performance footage, Mike and Dave videos, and other stuff that can only be described as "odd."
Every Friday (or late thursday night), I'll put up a mix which includes the record you can find it on. This week's return is of a mix that doesn't really focus on anything specific, but it's got a cool wandering vibe. Check it out here.
I've begun digging out recordings from live shows. I'm putting them up on imeem, and setting it all up. More shows coming soon. Beasts of Burden live at the Belmont in Hamtramck. And maybe even complete version of the Mr. Fusion show and a full Mike and Dave recording!! For now, check out the first installment...a Kalamazoo College live performance through the media section or just go to it directly with this link.
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth forever. -Ecclesiastes 1:4
After a delay that felt like an eternity but you would've never seen, the new version of the site is here. Peruse the site to see anything you may have been missing. I've thrown in a bunch of hidden content for those who like that kind of thing.
I've been busy being married, looking for a full time teaching job, working a part-timer, working on new material...so I haven't had as much time to devote to this website and my blog as I've wanted to...in fact with the blog I haven't posted since before the wedding!!
The big things up right now, beyond a fresh new look, are the archived lyrics in the words section, the album section, and nice hefty music playlists in the media section...one is for those who haven't heard my stuff, and the other is for those who are looking for more.
Coming soon will be a full report on the buisnesses connected with our honeymoon in the words section, more photos and movies in the media section, new demos and the return of the weekly 80minute mix list! Plus, I plan on jumpstarting the almost-dead blog I used to update so frequently
The Beasts of Burden and I have a rare late-summer show scheduled for September 8. Check out more information in the show section.
